NYX at Puente Romano: Marbella's Speakeasy Club Explained

NYX is the kind of place you'd walk past if nobody told you it was there. It's a speakeasy-style club behind a discreet door inside GAIA, the restaurant in the heart of Puente Romano, the resort on Marbella's Golden Mile. It opens four nights a week, it's open now in autumn, and it's a very different night from the big rooms in Puerto Banús. Here's how it works.

How to find it

Head to Puente Romano Beach Resort on the Golden Mile and make for GAIA. The club is through a door inside the restaurant, which is the whole speakeasy idea: no big sign on the street, no queue snaking round the block. Arrive by taxi and ask to be dropped at the resort. If you're having dinner at GAIA first, you're already in the right building. If you're not, have your booking or your name on the list sorted before you arrive: a hidden door isn't really built for turning up on a whim.

What it looks like

The concept draws on mythology and the night, which fits the name: Nyx is the Greek goddess of night. Inside, the interiors are dark, in deep reds and golds, with bold cocktails at the bar and a curated DJ programme setting the pace. Think low light, a smaller room and a crowd that came looking for this particular door, rather than a big-room club with a stage.

Days and hours

NYX opens Wednesday to Saturday, from 22:00 to 04:00. On Fridays and Saturdays there's also dinner from 20:45 with a select GAIA menu, so you can eat and stay on without changing venue. The same resort has a second late option: COYA Club, open Thursday to Saturday from 21:00 to 04:00, where the night runs from COYA dinner to a live show and then a DJ.

What happened to La Suite

If you knew Puente Romano a few years ago, you'll remember La Suite, the club that used to be the resort's late-night address. It's gone: its old website now redirects to Chanca by Coya. For a club night inside Puente Romano today, NYX is the speakeasy option and COYA Club is the dinner-and-show option.

NYX or COYA Club?

They share a resort but not a mood. NYX is the darker, more hidden room, built around cocktails and the DJ, and it's the one open on Wednesdays. COYA Club is built around the sequence of dinner, a live show and then the DJ, from Thursday to Saturday. If your group wants to talk over a drink and dance a bit later on, NYX is the better pick. If you want the evening to feel like a production from the first course, go for COYA Club. On a Friday or Saturday you could even start at one and finish at the other, since both run until 04:00.

What to wear

NYX doesn't publish a dress code in the sources we checked. Bear in mind where it is: a resort restaurant on the Golden Mile. Dress as you would for a good dinner, smart-casual or a notch above, with proper shoes. Leave the beachwear and sportswear at the hotel, and bring ID.

Who it suits

NYX works for couples, small groups and anyone who prefers a cocktail and a good DJ in a smaller room to a big club with thousands of people. It works less well if you want a huge dance floor or a headline act. A simple plan that suits most people:

• Wednesday or Thursday: go straight to NYX from 22:00 for drinks and the DJ
• Friday or Saturday: book dinner from 20:45 and stay on for the club
• Want a show with dinner: COYA Club in the same resort, Thursday to Saturday
• Want a bigger club afterwards: Motel Particulier or Momento, also on the Golden Mile
